DIY Lemon and Coconut Oil Sugar Scrub
Have you started using Coconut Oil yet? If not you have to jump on the coconut oil bandwagon. It’s so good for your body, inside and out. I keep one near my kitchen sink to banish stinky hands from chopping onions or garlic and I keep a stash to give as gifts to my family and friends. It’s super moisturizing and it smells so lemony fresh.

Here’s What You’ll Need
4 oz. Mason Jars

Here’s How You Do It
Place 1 cup of coconut oil in a microwave safe bowl and melt for about 45 seconds. Coconut Oil will be solid below 76 degrees. If you live in a warmer climate your Coconut Oil may already be liquid in the jar so you don’t need to heat it up.
Measure 2 cups of sugar into a bowl and slowly add your melted coconut oil. Mix until your sugar and coconut oil are combined. Your mixture should be more sugary than oily.
Next add about 40-50 drops of Lemon Essential Oil. I love using Lemon Oil because it is antibacterial and antifungal so it’s perfect for the kitchen. And it just smells so good! But if lemon is not your thing you can supplement any other citrus oil or even lavender.
Spoon your Lemon And Coconut Oil Sugar Scrub into your mason jar and seal lid.
For gifts, I like to wrap mine in a cellophane bag and attach a wooden spoon to use as a scoop with twine. Don’t forget to include the directions. Add a small amount to dry hands and gently rub scrub over any dry areas. Rinse under warm water until sugar dissolves and a little oil remains on your skin. Dry hands and rub any remaining oil into skin as a moisturizer.

Does the lemon scrub need to be refrigerated after making it?

Hi Deborah, no there shouldn’t be any need to refrigerate. Between the oil and anti microbial qualities of lemon essential oil your scrub should have a pretty good shelf life. I would say at least 6-8 months. Though I have a few different flavors that I have had on my counter for longer than that and the are still good.

Instead of using lemon oil I used lavender oil. I wanted the scent of lemon so I squeezed lemon juice in it. Will that mess up the scrub any?

I have made lavender sugar scrub too, you can use any essential oil that you like. Not sure about the lemon juice, you might want to keep it in the fridge or just use it in a timely fashion.
I just made this recipe but it still seems like there’s quite a bit of oil hanging about. If I leave it for a little bit will it dry up or do I add more sugar

Go ahead and add more sugar. I like mine a little bit on the oilier side so you can rub the excess into your skin after you rinse the sugar. But it’s completely a personal preference.
