Transformation Tuesday: A Country Hutch Makeover

Pine Hutch Painted in French Linen

A good friend of mine asked me to work some magic on her dated pine hutch. They were moving to a new home and while the hutch was functional it never really was her style. And it really wasn’t going to go in her new home. But it had sentimental value since it was given to her by a family member.

Yup, it’s that laminate ikea-ish wood. Heck, it might have even been from ikea. But the pine look screamed country and we wanted a more traditional look. A little more Pottery Barn and a little less Country Peddler. We decided that Annie Sloan French Linen was the color du jour for this piece. And I have to say it turned out great! (try to ignore the reflections in the glass, yes that’s my washer and dryer)

I didn’t not prime or sand or anything like that. Just got that paint on there using my favorite big brush! It’s the same type of brush I used for my How to Paint Furniture Fast tutorial. Really, this makes painting big pieces go so fast, you have to try one!

A little strategically placed distressing, new knobs (seriously don’t underestimate the power that new knobs and drawer pulls can have on your furniture. It’s like updating the jewelry on a great outfit.) and clear wax sealed the deal.

I’m painting a lovely hunter green, very laminate kitchen hutch right now. So wishing I had a big brush like your’s to complete the project! Love the color and you are so right about the new hardware!
