Before and After: Milk Paint Dresser in Galvanized

Happy Friday! Sometimes a piece of furniture doesn’t need a full on makeover, it just needs to be freshened up. This was definitely the case with this dresser!

White Dresser Before

You might recognize it from the before pictures of my guest room that I am giving a makeover. It has been tucked away in the closet for years and I have been filling the drawers with scraps of ribbon and fabric that I will never use. But I’ve hung onto this dresser with the thought that I might need it someday. Guess what? I don’t!

Galvanized Milk Paint

This dresser has been moved about a million times in it’s life (it was my husband’s dresser as a child) I painted it at some point with a flat white paint. But now it is dingy and dinged. I didn’t want to make a dramatic change so I went with Sweet Pickins Milk Paint in Galvanized. It’s a nice light gray color. I used Extra Bond because I didn’t want this piece to be chippy. 2 coats of paint, a light distressing with sand paper, clear wax to seal and this dresser was ready for her after shot.

I think she looks a little younger and more dressed up than she was in plain old white .

I love the variations in color in the milk paint too. It gives every piece you paint a little character.

Don’t glass knobs just make everything better?

Oh and I made a little video to show you how I applied the clear wax. Check it out here:

Love the subtle facelift. I am moving more towards soft grays in furniture as well. It turned out fabulous.
